My Story
Shakearah Winston is a Juris Doctor candidate at Southern University Law Center and a San Francisco, California native. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications from Southern University and A&M College, where she developed her foundation in media, communications, and entertainment.
Prior to law school, Shakearah built her career in the entertainment industry through internships with Columbia Records, Interscope Records/Geffen Records, and The Recording Academy (GRAMMYs), before joining The Recording Academy full-time. Her experience in music publicity, communications, and media relations provided her with a strong foundation in the entertainment business and the role strategic communication plays in supporting artists and creative professionals.
At Southern University Law Center, Shakearah is involved in several leadership organizations, including serving as Student Bar Association Historian, Vice President of Entertainment for the Sports & Entertainment Law Association, and as a Student Ambassador. She is also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
Shakearah is pursuing a career as an entertainment attorney, combining her background in music and communications with her legal education to advocate for creators and contribute to the evolving entertainment industry.
